Ode to Chi

Joy was born thirty years ago today, a total joy to me anyway. Let me tell you about some of the things she's given me:

1. a greater appreciation for electrons
2. more good laughs than I can count
3. an introduction to thoroughly modern millie
4. induction into knitting, quilting, book-binding
5. absolute DELIGHT
6. nicknames
7. a good lesson about manifest destiny (sorry I couldn't shake 157!)
8. a knowledge of flesh-eating bacteria
9. a vision of imperfection beautiful
10. some romping good times in sundry places (Jackson, Seattle, Portland, Paris, Davis, Poipu, Kodachrome, Honolulu, South Fork, Park City ... if only I had a scanner...)
11. many heart to hearts
12. a love for poetry (tangent: I'll never forget our first encounter in this realm together. PHS library. I pick up a volume of some Romantic--Byron or Keats maybe. Chi gets something contemporary, Marge Piercy say. We debate the relative merits.)
13. a campaign for my first pair of birkenstocks
14. some fun times with a camera
15. a year in yearbook production (J. Peterman anyone?)
16. common sense and grounding when incensed
17. enthusiasm for spring
18. intro to water aerobics
19. encouragement when needed
20. greater appreciation for process
21. o-fish-al treats
22. good advice
23. sympathy when out to pasture
24. code language (j.w. (as in waters)--what was I thinking?)
25. recognition of the elf
26. indigo girls communion
27. harmony 101 (in every sense, think "pray...")
28. a reason to enter the email world way back when
29. inspiration
30. a haven, a heaven, joy

and I could go on ("I know it isn't much...."). I'm sure those of you who know her will agree: the world is a better place because she's here.

this brought utter disbelief and tears to my eyes. i am thrilled to relive these memories and so happy that you shared in/helped create all of them. YOU are a total joy--and i don't merit nearly this much adulation. but i'll take it....cuz i'm 30!

you literally took my breath away as i read this. so fun and thrilling....

you're the most!
