It's my birthday and I'll wish if I want to

I love Johanna's birthday wishes tradition and I want to adopt it as one of my own. (See this post and this post and this post for more info.) Do you mind Joh? Basically, I'm hoping you'll give me an imaginary present--anything you want.

So won't you give me some birthday love in wish form for my special day? I'm not picky; nothing elaborate required. And I don't care if you don't know me from Eve, you'll make my day.

I peek at your blog from time to time because your brilliant, and I can't resist being the first to send a wish your way. Happy Birthday! I'm sending you a limitless gift card to your favorite grocer, that when magically called upon, delivers to your doorstep every tasty fresh ingredient necessary to create the meals and snacks your heart desires...and while I'm feeling so generous, I'll throw in a maid and cook that show up whenever you need a hand.

Becca - I'm giving you an unlimited gift certificate (with no expiration) to Powells.com.

Gabe wishes you a Merry Christmas (ya, he doesn't quite get it).

I wish you a year of maintenance free car driving. No repairs, accidents, yogurt spills in the back, weird smells, scraping windshields, odd clunking noises at startup, no need for gas, oil, or vacuuming. Happy Birthday!

The pocket dimension: my wish will let you escape from the relentless entropic stream of time whenever you have either a really great writing idea or just a need for some solitude (although this one will also accomodate guests, should you invite them in). It's full of flowers and aromatic herbs, and the climate varies depending on what time of day (in the normal world) you enter. Pre-breakfast entries are moist tropical, late-morning entries are temperate zone spring, early afternoon entries are non-Great-Basin mid-latitude midsummer, late afternoon entries are Moominvalley-midwinter, and evening entries are Gaspe autumn. Precipitation can be dialed up, down, or sideways to any setting appropriate to the climate. Flowers and herbs not available during late-afternoon entries.

This wish also comes with life extensions equal in length to your combined time spent in the pocket dimension - there's no way you get this gift if it means I or the rest of us get less time with you overall. They come in the form of varied fruits, and french pastries.

Froeliche Geburtstag!

becca, i wish you an organic garden bursting with produce all year long, surrounded by an orchard of heirloom fruit trees, all of which are drought resistant and maintenance free, of course!

You've already received some awesome wishes--the garden and fruit trees are hard to beat! Anyway, we wish you children who never whine, who compliment you on what an amazing mother you are, and who always pitch in to help without being asked. We also wish you an unlimited time with Martin in the vacation spot(s) of your choice. Included are all accommodations, meals, and expenses so that you can do anything you desire. And lastly we wish you days with extra hours during which you are free from other commitments and can pursue the projects you want to do but never seem to have the time for. Hope you have a great day!

My gift to you is some time in Kauai with your husband (no kids-but they are happily taken care of somewhere else). A kayak trip down the river to one of the waterfalls you can only reach by river. Time on the rope swing where you can jump into the water. A hike along the Na Pali coastline to the waterfall. A helicopter ride over the island with no motion sickness. Time to read and watch the beautiful sunsets. Time on the beaches with no one else around you to think and dream and just "be." And time in these amazing hammocks:
http://yellowballoondays.blogspot.com/2009/02/kauai-birthday-wishes-for-my-friend.html I have to wish you this trip because YOU are one of the reasons we went there and it was the most amazing thing ever. Of course I'm giving you all the things we couldn't do with kids in tow...
happy happy birthday. hope your day is beautiful!

As a matter of truth, I DO know you from Eve, and it's one of my treasured thoughts that the two of you entranced grandly on the same day . . . you and she are forever linked in the birthday wishes in my heart for both of you.
Today, I wish for you the ability to see through the muck and mismanagement of self-perception and into a clear view of yourself and your abilities--in short to see yourself as others see you. That reflection would stun you you into a pleasured confidence, leaving jitters and pauses in its wake as you stride, write, express, verbalize, and act with supreme self-awareness--awareness of your gorgeous countenance, your awe-inspiring connectedness to nature and to nurturing, and your guileless appreciation of all things "other."
I love you, girl!

Annie, I've been smiling all day at this thought. How perfect! Fresh tasty treats AND a maid AND a cook? Wow, I feel spoiled.

Kevin, the library of my dreams within reach! Amazing! My mental book orders are already stacking up.

Adam, Kellie, et. al., I am so excited to take that class and can I have a lemon zester? Ooh and ingredients too? Can my children automatically love and devour all of my culinary creations too?

Lael, how did you know this is exactly what I need right now? We just got back from a mini road trip and the car is a mess, bits of chips and rust mud everywhere. And can the dent in the side magically repair itself even though it was damaged last July?

Moiety, I have wished for this so many times--most often for secret sleep or reading time and yes, writing too. Can I take you with me to the pocket dimension occasionally for some time far, far away?

Lindy, hooray! A garden I can finally manage (i.e., one that manages itself). And heirloom is just my favorite. I'll even can you some applesauce or maybe we should have a cidering party when its harvest time again.

April et. al., I can't think of three wishes I would rather have! Children who don't complain? Vacations? Project time? I'm in heaven.

Dorothea, I can feel that soft, silty sand between my toes and hear the surf and see those dolphins out beyond the break. And I'm loving the mountain guava along the trail and we even saw some nene and mountain goats. It is thoroughly blissful to relax in those hammocks sans children for a little while. Do you want me to bring you some orchids?

Sarah, I've often wished to see things "as they really are" as the only thing I am really sure of is my own mental muddle. Thank you for the gift of clarity and the chance to be on my own side, a true treasure! It makes me inordinately happy to share a birthday with Eve too; I mean, how can I possibly go wrong with such company? Your beautiful, appreciative words just made my whole year.

My birthday wish is a year long trip to Vermont. It of course comes with a great little farm on a hill outside of Woodstock. A couple of sheep, a small flock of chickens, two nanny goats still fresh, a great stack of wood for the cook stove and fireplace. Solar panels on the roof, a wind generator behind the barn. The barn: with hand hewn beams and a tremendous hay loft full of sweet timothy. Perfect for jumping and tunneling through. Did I mention the swing hung from the rafters? (A note here about animal husbandry: this farm has remarkable number of house and barn tomte. Should it be your desire to care for the animals you will of course find the jobs pleasurable and your body invigorated and renewed by the labor, BUT should your pleasure lead you to merely gaze out the window on cold mornings, you may rest assured that the animals will be cared for by gnome, elf, troll, or tomte -- whichever name you give them.)
I will drive up for a visit on a day's notice. :)

my wish for you is 100 acres in the location of your choice. only caveat: you have to invite me to build a house on it with you. then the celestial neighbors could become earthly neighbors, and i'd be the happiest woman on earth.

Hmmm...I'm wishing you 15 books -- the kind where you can't put them down and love every minute; a fantastic DI spree where you find several items you absolutely LOVE; a hot night out on the town; some great hearty chuckles from watching "You've Got Mail"; a fantastically delicious dessert, and an even better meal; a whole bag full of happy, lovely fabric scraps that would make a lovely quilt and provide food for the imagination; a trip to Kings College on Christmas Eve; and a walk in the woods in the rain.

I love you Becca. Happy Birthday!

Heidi, it's perfect! I accept. I can't wait to learn the art of animal husbandry from you; do you think I'll like it?

Micah and Emily, thank you I did have sunshine both literally and figuratively. The day hinted to Spring and I smiled all day from these fun wishes.

Chi, it would be heaven on earth to live by you. Let's start working on our house plans.

Tami, thank you! I could always use an expansion of any zen qualities and responses.

Carrie, we loved spending time with you too! I think I overdosed on licorice but I'm going to hold that wish in reserve.

the fulfillment of secret wishes known to you and God alone (and possibly Martin)

your own chicken coop filled with sweet-natured bantys

(and I'm just getting started).

Pavee diamonds--very luxe, very tasteful, very over the top and sparkly. (D and I think alike.) For your ears, your throat, your finger, your wrist.

And two evening performances to wear them to, the first, a ballet/modern dance show, the second a reverberating choral performance that by turns hushes and thrums.

(Happy birthday dear Becca. I wished mighty Happys for you on your day; this is first time we've had power during computer time in a while! oxox.) (Love you to make this a tradition. Then I can give you diamonds for your birthday when I feel like it!)

Geo, just getting started? I wonder what your warmed-up list would look like as this has me nearly keeling over in anticipation. Yes, yes, all of those! I love it. These are just as good as tangible presents to me. Some birthday presents here from YOU already fulfilled one of my secret wishes.

Dave and Kendra, can you be in the basement right now? I'm on my way down. And never a insomniac hangover again? And extra hours in the day? I wish for that on a daily basis it seems. Thank you, thank you! I love and miss you too. Shall it be peppermint or cookies and cream?

Joh, hooray to hear from you! I was also secretly hoping I would get some little treasure from you too. And I didn't just get a little treasure but a great big one, diamonds! Wahoo! I'm not sure which is better, the jewelry or dress-up occasions in the arts to attend. Lucky me I don't have to choose but can both together. Thanks! Can I choose the stones myself in South Africa so I can come visit you?

Scott, thanks! Time is probably one of the best gift there is; usually there is such a shortage! I wonder if I'll ever feel at a loss as to what to do? Seems hard to imagine.

I was going to give you a visit wish, but frankly, I wanted to save it for real campaigning: Until the end of March, two people round trip $1600 on Ethiopioan Airlines. Wide open arms awaiting you at this end of the journey...!

i've been thinking and thinking about this. for your birthday (were it in my power) i would bring martin and bebes out here with you when you come. you would get to use the same bycicle powered wormhole (of course i'd be riding that bike) to get here, free and instantaneous, except through some magic of wormholes you'd have time to read an entire book of your choice and still get here instantaneously. through some distant obscure connection, you'd have a breezy, spacious beachouse in kailua to stay in for free while you were here, and oahu traffic would dissapear entirely for the duration of your trip. (that makes it only 10 minutes to honolulu :) ) your children would fall asleep early in the evening and perhaps late in the morning, and as a result would be cheerful and easygoing and enjoy the trip as much as you. there would be no catching up to do when you got home, because wormhole travel means that you don't lose any time. and we'd eat great great food. happy birthday becca!

I forgot to come back and add one more wish that I thought of the night that I sent you my first wish. I am wishing you the feeling that comes after crossing a marathon finish line for the first time. I know this is one of your dreams.
