So I head ACROSS THE VALLEY to instacare only to be told that they don't work with the PPO version of BCBS which is what we have. I could try the urgent care place instead. We go to urgent care (sick child and preschooler in tow). We wait. We fill out forms. We wait. We watch a national geographic special on shipwreck identification. We see the doctor for 3 minutes who confirms that Anna does indeed have another ear infection in her right ear (same as last time, several weeks ago). We go to a pharmacy. We wait. And wait. We proceed back across the valley to pick up E & S from school. It's 11:15 and I'm totally done for the day.
Except that I'm not because we also need to go to the animal shelter (and drive to Provo and then to Midway and party with the tribe, etc.). Our feral-turned-manic cat is missing in action. I (stupidly I guess) let him go out to feel the breeze on his face for once in his life on Monday and the skittish kitty took off. Gone. Our neighborhood is not exactly feline friendly as we suspect Moppet was poisoned last summer. At least our more immediate neighbors feign ignorance and so far he has not showed up at any of the 4 shelters I've checked daily, dead or alive. (I did discover, however, that the humane society posts pictures, descriptions and other pertinent info of their received animals you can check online. After traipsing around to one place after another, this is a service I appreciate!)
Still no Mopp. Please report any suspicious behavior or possibly helpful clues to yours truly.
Anna has been a screaming barnacle today. She started her full-throttle cries shortly after 5 this morning and has been at it regularly ever since. Martin left early for a conference so I made lunches for E & S with her clingly to my leg and howling. She quiets down if I hold her but I do sometimes have to put her down (to drive Eden to the orthodontist for instance or to get something to eat for the girls). She is screaming as I type. I had rocked her to sleep, put her quietly (and content!) in her bed and left the room. All's well for a minute or so then the crying began and it hasn't let up yet. I had hoped for a nap too after the 5 a.m. wake-up call but I might not be so lucky.
And can I just say that animal shelters are one of the most depressing places on earth? They reek and seeing all of those animals in rows after rows of cages makes me sad. I think an orphanage would put me over the edge.
p.s., Glory be, there is quiet in the house. I'm going to go chase some z's after all. Wish me luck.

Good luck. You can drop any of the kids off at any time if you need a break. I sure miss our kid swap sessions.
Yes, you should switch doctors. Most doctor's keep daily appointments open for sick visits. I think you should be able to get into your pediatrician the day OF for a sick visit. sorry.
I feel for you. I would switch doctors. We've never had a problem getting an appointment.
This is ONE OF THOSE DAYS for you, isn't it. I hope it gets better.
Oh my goodness Becca... You've got a handful. Poor Anna. I hope she gets feeling better--for everyone's sake. And Mop is missing??? How sad!
I didn't laugh at your blog post I swear, ok, maybe a little but it was out of sympathy! Why are some days just SOOO bad...I think it's the weather.
Ya, you should switch Doctors. How often do people really plan ahead for illnesses...most offices know this and keep appointments open or at least give you the option to see someone else in the office. Geez.
Mel, let's talk schedules again. I don't remember when or if you have "free" days. I miss our swap too!
Tami, I think you're right. I don't really look forward to the process of trying to find a new one but I think I am going to.
Dorothea, I'm happy to say that things got somewhat better. Thanks for the sympathy!
Christa, yes Mopp is missing. I feel doubly bad because Daffodil was terrified if I let him out that he would be gone. How terrible to have her premonitions born out.
Lindsey, it was sort of meant to be funny in a black humor kind of way. It helps me not freak out as much when I can sort of distance myself from the craziness in chronicling it. I'm glad you were kind of amused. And I'm glad to have support on the doctor issue; it's always nice to be validated when you think something is unreasonable!
Love the "screaming barnacle" imagery! Didn't see your post until late tonight, but we're glad things got better and we hope there isn't a midnight rant in the works. K says to mix probiotics into Anna's food and see if that helps (there was a study that showed children given probiotics had fewer ear infections in a day care setting). We wish the best for Mopp and hope he might turn up soon.
Hi Becca,
What a nightmare! I would be seriously t.o.'d if my doctor's office couldn't rearrange their schedule to fit me in-telling you to go to instacare is not acceptable. They should know the trauma of having an upset child with an ear infection. We were up the other night for three hours with a screaming Soren b/c he had an ear infection. Anyway--hugs. I love the name Soren soo much. I couldn't believe that you would have named another boy Asher! I love that name dearly too.
Oh, I think you should switch doctors, too. The clinic we go to will always get you in, even if you just have to see another doctor. After reading this, I appreciate that even more. Sorry you've had such a rough day, that is awful!
And I hope you find the cat.
I'm sorry for the horrible couple of days. And I'm sorry about your kitty.
I definetly think you should switch doctors. I am always able to get my kids in on the days they are sick to my doctor. Sounds like your doctor has too many patients. I really like my doctor. He's in West Jordan, his name is Dr. Aizad.
Hi Becca, Keith P Ramsey is a good pediatrician, he is in West Jordan on Redwood Road and about 90th South. He can always get us in the day of when the girls are sick & they are open on Saturdays.
April, I'm beginning to think that we won't see Mopp again. I haven't had any luck at the shelters and he is super skittish. He might be cowering somewhere outside but no food is getting eaten either. Anna has kept up her super-clingyness in the mornings but is getting better I think.
Jessica, thanks! So I guess I didn't tell you earlier about the names even though I thought I had (see, I mistake mental conversations for real ones all the time!). I think it's time to find a new doctor.
Thanks Liz. We were down in Provo on Wed. but I bother coming by with germs. I hope I see you soon!
Shawna and Andrea, thanks for the recommendations! That is exactly what I need now.
I'm so sorry Becca! I do think you should switch doctors. Really. Offices (and I've done workflow analyses at lots of offices) should get sick children in the same day. Call me if you get a chance and I'll suggest some doctors for you: 859-344-5226.
Good luck and congrats on the nap!
Anna
P.S. I love the barnacle description.
oh man, that sounds like a terrible day! is anna feeling better yet?
That day was the real deal. I'm glad you survived it and hope you don't have to repeat it (at least not any time soon)! xoxoxoxo
