What we've been up to this summer: the last installment

The tail end of our summer and into the first week of school, we had Buchert family in town. The far-flung eastern-most and western-most siblings were here, nieces and nephew in tow. The Moondogs missed the vast bulk of the interaction as we were up at Bear Lake the first week, and then back in school for the last week. But we crammed in all the time we could on the weekends and some during the week.

Since it is rare that all of the siblings are together, one item on the agenda was to take some photos. Dad Buchert ended up back in the hospital the day after Heidi's arrival so the family convened at UVRMC for the photos. You may have seen this one. Here is another gem from the photo shoot, spontaneous sibling frolicking:

Immediately following this event, some of us went for a jaunt down at the lake. Have I mentioned before how much I love Utah Lake? I have a vast number of photos from this stretch by the airport; it is one of my favorite places to escape to. I have an essay brewing on Utah Lake as my own Tinker Creek, but I digress. This particular Sunday evening we meandered. The boys jumped and practiced a routine they were working on. And a stiff wind came up. I may not have mentioned that I love wind (oh wait, I have). I do.

Another activity from that first weekend was a $2 children's art show, in which we invited neighbors and random people off the street to peruse the grandchildren's artistry. Josie earned enough money this way to buy a kitty-in-a-bag she desperately wanted from Heindselman's. (Daffodil is now marking her scribbles with price tags, yesterday's were marked at $13/ea. I think we may have given them an inflated sense of earning capacity!)

Other activities from the reunion marathon included: cheering Jeanne & Heidi on at the salon for haircuts, a temple trip for the older youth, kite flying, laser tag, an author/illustrator night at the library, picnics in the park and up the canyon, a family dance--limbo included. Each of these occasions could merit their own post but I imagine you may be done with this series. I'm afraid it may be starting to resemble some weary travelogue. I'll leave you with some kite-flying photos and a video of what happens when Soren tires of the kite strings:

I hope you had a great summer too!
